Mayor Rybak Announces Department Head Appointments

Six of Eight City Charter Department Heads Will Be Re-Appointed

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak today announced that he will be nominating for reappointment all but two City Charter Department Heads. Mayor Rybak previously announced that he was nominating Steven Bosacker to be the next City Coordinator replacing John Moir. Mayor Rybak announced that he is not nominating Klara Fabry for reappointment as Director of Public Works, but will work with the Executive Committee and the City Coordinator to initiate a search process for a new Director.

Mayor Rybak will present a letter to the Executive Committee tomorrow nominating the following department heads for reappointment:

• Bonnie Bleskachek as Fire Chief

• Jay Heffern as City Attorney

• Jayne Khalifa as Civil Rights Director

• Gretchen Musicant as Commissioner of Health and Family Support

• Lee Sheehy as Community Planning and Economic Development Director

• Patrick Todd as City Assessor

If confirmed by the City Council, all the reappointed department heads will serve two-year terms set to begin immediately. Ms. Fabry is expected to serve as Director of Public Works until a replacement is hired. A search will be undertaken immediately.

“The City of Minneapolis has been served well by a stellar leadership team,” said Rybak of the re-appointments. “Minneapolis continues to lead the country as a large city with a revitalized downtown, vibrant neighborhoods, healthy residents, and innovative reform. With this leadership team, I am confident that Minneapolis’ brightest days lie ahead and that we will continue to lead the nation as one of the greatest cities in the world.”
